President and CEO
Cary Prague is an internationally best-selling author and lecturer
in the database industry. He owns Database Creations, Inc. the
world’s largest Microsoft Access add-on company.
Database Creations develops and markets many add-on software
products for Microsoft Access including Yes! I Can Run My Business
Accounting software, a business sales and accounting program and
winner of the 1998 Access Advisor Magazine Readers Choice award for
best accounting application, Check Writer financial software, winner
of the Microsoft Network award for best Access Application,
the EZ Access line of developer products, the Access Business Forms
Library distributed by Microsoft with Access 2.0 upgrades, TabMaster
Pro Wizard, User Interface Construction Kit winner of the 1998 and
1996 Access Advisor Readers Choice award, the Calendar Construction
Kit, the Picture Builder Add-On Picture Pack, and the Command Bar
Image Editor and Image Pack.
Cary also manages a successful consulting company which is a
Microsoft Certified Solution Provider specializing in Microsoft
Access applications. His local and national clients include many
Fortune 500 software companies, manufacturers, defense contractors,
and insurance industry companies. His client list includes
Microsoft, Borland International, ABB, Smith & Wesson Firearms,
Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and other Fortune 500 companies.
Formerly, he has held numerous management positions in corporate
information systems, including Director of Managed Care Reporting
for MetraHealth, Director of Corporate Finance & Software
Productivity at Travelers Insurance where he was
responsible for software support and training for 35,000 end users.
He is one of the best selling authors in the computer database
management market having written over thirty five books which have
sold over one million copies on software including Microsoft Access,
Borland’s dBASE IV, Paradox, R:Base and Framework.
Cary’s books include the Microsoft Access Bible (recently number one
on the Ingram Bestselling Database Titles list and in the amazon.com
top 100), Access 97 Secrets, dBASE for Windows Handbook, dBASE IV
Programming (winner of the Computer Press Association’s Book of the
Year award for Best Software Specific Book), and Everyman’s Database
Primer Featuring dBASE IV. He recently completed several new Access
2000 books.
Cary is certified in Access as a Microsoft Certified Professional
and has passed the MOUS test in Access and Word. He is a frequent
speaker at seminars and conferences around the country. He is on the
exclusive 18 person Microsoft Access Insider Advisory Board and
makes frequent trips to Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, WA. He
has been voted the best speaker by the attendees of several national
conferences. Recently, he was a speaker for Microsoft sponsored
conferences in Hawaii, Phoenix, Chicago, Toronto, Palm Springs,
Boston and Orlando. He has also spoken at Borland’s Database
Conference, Digital Consulting’s Database World, Microsoft’s
Developer Days, Computerland’s Technomics Conference, COMDEX, and
COMPAQ
Computer’s Innovate. He was a contributing editor to Access Advisor
magazine and continues to write for them.
Cary holds a master’s degree in computer science from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute, and an M.B.A and Bachelor of Accounting from
the University of Connecticut. He is also a Certified Data
Processor.
Jennifer Reardon
Senior Developer
Jennifer Reardon is an independent consultant with over 15 years of
experience in providing custom applications for small businesses.
She is the owner of Advanced Software Concepts providing personal
computer database management applications to clients in both the
public and private sectors. She has worked for Database Creations
since 1994.
Jennifer has written several chapters for books on dBase and
Microsoft Access, including the Access 2003 Bible, Access 2002
Bible, Access 2000 Bible, Access 97 Bible and Access 97 Secrets
published by IDG Books. She was the lead author in the Weekend Crash
Course in Access 2003 Programming and Weekend Crash Course in Access
2000 Programming book.
She was the lead programmer of Yes! I Can Run My Business, a
full-featured business accounting software package including
double-entry general ledger, A/R, A/P, sales orders, invoicing,
purchase orders, and inventory management.
She was also a key developer for the User Interface Construction
Kit. This product won the Reader’s Choice award for the best user
interface tool for Microsoft Access.
Jennifer worked closely with Borland International testing dBase for
Windows as she developed the Business Forms Library sold as a
premium by Borland and distributed with upgrades.
She is the project manager for some of our most successful efforts
including the creation of a spare parts inventory system for Pratt
and Whitney aircraft for the F22 Fighter, the Emergency Management
System for the State of Connecticut, a Time and Billing system for
United Healthcare, a Cash Management system for ProHealth Physicians
Group, and many other projects.
Her corporate experience includes six years with The Travelers where
she was an Associate Software Engineer serving on numerous
mission-critical client/server software development projects using
Easel, C, SQL Server, and DB2.
Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of
Massachusetts.
Diana Reid
Developer
Diana Reid is a lead developer on the accounting software products
developed and sold through Database Creations, Inc. In addition, she
provides custom solutions for customers of the company's products,
as well as stand-alone solutions for specific business needs.
Ms. Reid also provides training and support for end users and writes
the sample files and user guides provided for custom and
off-the-shelf software developed by Database Creations.
Prior to joining the company in 1996, Ms. Reid was a senior systems
analyst with The Travelers Insurance Company. Her
positions within the company included the implementation and support
of company wide e-mail software, e-mail gateways, and networks.
She also was responsible for the development and support of a Lotus
Notes application for the insurance fraud division. She wrote
training manuals and taught software training classes for Travelers
employees.
She is a contributing editor for many books on Microsoft Access,
including the best-selling Microsoft Access Bible series authored by
Cary Prague and published by Wiley Publishing and the former IDG Books, and co-authored Weekend Crash
Course in Access 2000 and Weekend Crash Course in Access 2003
Programming for
Wiley Publishing.
She is the recipient of the Best of Show award for Best Speaker at
the DevCon Connections conference in New Orleans in May 2000. This
is a Microsoft sponsored developer conference covering Microsoft
technologies including Microsoft Access, Visual Basic, SQL Server
and web applications. Ms Reid speaks on Microsoft FrontPage, Office
web extensions and HTML.
Ms. Reid received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from
Central Connecticut State University.
Phuc Phan
Developer
Phuc V. Phan provides is an independent consultant with over ten
years of experience designing custom applications for small
businesses.
Phan's concentration is in developing Access applications and
migrating existing Access applications to SQL Server. He also spends
a significant amount of time working on contracted projects from
such companies as Otis Elevator, Pratt & Whitney, United Healthcare,
and Smith & Wesson Corporation as well as many other companies
looking for Access customized solutions. On these projects he serves
various roles from design and development to testing and evaluation.
He has served as a project manager designing, developing, and
implementing systems.
Phan regularly attends Microsoft sponsored conferences and seminars
to increase his technical knowledge base and stay current with new
technology and future software development techniques. He also has
taken courses and training sessions in such technology and programs
as Microsoft Windows NT, Access, Exchange, and Small Business
Server. His various roles in the company requires that he stays on
top of many areas of technology that are becoming ever increasingly
integrated and complex.
Phan, spent over five years in the Library Systems Department
serving as a Systems Specialist. Serving as a member of a small
department, which managed over 300 hundred staff members and over
20,000 patrons, which included students and faculty, spread across
five campuses. He worked on developing an application to track
technical support calls using Access. He was instrumental in
restructuring the student assistant training program, which trained
student staff members in the ever expanding role, use, and
maintenance of computers in the library. Phan also initiated a
training program that taught “computerese” to staff members, wherein
the goal was to get the user computer literate and introduce cross
training of applications and skills. Additional knowledge and
experience includes and is not limited to the following: Exchange,
SQL, TCP/IP, network topologies and technology, HTML, web
administration, BBS implementation, Macintosh OS.
Graduating with a bachelors degree in May of 1995, Phan majored in
psychology and biology with a concentration in neuropsychology from
University of Connecticut. He is currently taking accounting courses
and plans to get a Masters in computer science and then an MBA
concentrating on information services.
